Sustainable NRM and Enterprise Training Activity (SNET)
The Sustainable NRM and Enterprise Training Activity has enabled the holding of a series of training sessions for organized community groups across East Africa in the area of NRM and Enterprise. As a result, many of the groups have now established CBNRM enterprises that are now a source of daily income and employment.
Through support from the Bees for Development Trust, UK, and The East African Ecotourism and Development Consultants (ECOCONSULT), VFA was able to host the Bee Keeping for conservation and development: Lessons from the rural community bee keeper, e-workshop. This was a capacity building workshop that brought together 20 rural bee keeper organizations from Kenya to share their experiences in the bee keeping trade. The output of this was a lessons learnt booklet.
With support from the Humanist Movement, ICELAND, a donation of 10 computers was channeled to VFA to help establish a Community and volunteer resource centre at VFA’s offices in Nairobi. The centre is now operational and well equipped with books, periodicals, magazines and CD’s from all over the world, and mainly in the area of environment and enterprise, including IWRM, volunteerism and gender. Donations of books, magazines and CD’s have been received from the World Rain Forest Movement-URUGUAY, Society for Conservation Biology-USA, Bernard Van Leer Foundation- NETHERLANDS, IUCN- KENYA, Diversitas- FRANCE, Royal Netherlands Institute, KIT- NETHERLANDS and the Eco-Ethics International Union- Germany.
