MT KENYA LIVELIHOOD IMPROVEMENT AND CONSERVATION PROGRAMME (MKLICOP)-
Based on the slopes of Mt Kenya, in Eastern Kenya, MKLICOP has positively imparted on the lives of hundreds of thousands of people directly and indirectly benefiting from the project. Through bee keeping and tree planting for enterprise and conservation and provision of water, many in this area indirectly depend on Mt Kenya forest, and contribute to its conservation efforts. Many farmers are now able to grow crops profitably, thanks to training provided by the project on modern farm technology. Others have also been able to reforest their farms with highly nutritious plants, and others have engaged in bee keeping and ecotourism. MKLICOP has been supported by the International Trees Foundation (UK), The Rinjeu Foundation (Kenya) and Kagoka Foundation (USA). The programme works in partnership with renowned organizations such as the Centre for Research in Environment, Kenya, Chuka University College and the Catholic Diocese of Meru.
